Trunko and Other Mysterious Sightings
On this episode of Expanded Perspectives Elite the guys start the show off talking about how on Tuesday, WikiLeaks dumped a large cache of documents allegedly coming from the CIA’s hacking unit. Julian Assange’s organization dubbed the release, which it says it’s the first in a series, as “Vault 7,” and billed it as the largest-ever of confidential CIA intelligence documents. According to these documents Hackers at the Central Intelligence Agency, with the help of colleagues from the British spy agency MI5, developed malware to secretly spy on targets through their Samsung Smart TVs. Then, Two University of Oxford biomedical researchers are calling for robots to be built with real human tissue, and they say the technology is there if we only choose to develop it. Writing in Science Robotics, Pierre-Alexis Mouthuy and Andrew Carr argue that humanoid robots could be the exact tool we need to create muscle and tendon grafts that actually work.
Then, it’s a good thing Neanderthals didn’t brush their teeth, otherwise we humans might not have been able to find out what they ate. An international team of scientists analyzed the DNA found in the tooth tartar of five preserved Neanderthal specimens, revealing a snapshot of the kinds of food included in the cavemen’s diets. Some ate meat while others only seemed to have plant DNA loaded into their teeth. The researchers could also tell which kinds of bacteria lived in their specimens’ mouths, and thought some of the Neanderthals might have even used natural painkillers. Then, a man in the west central Lowlands of Scotland said he captured the image of an “unknown entity”. The anonymous man says he was walking through the forest with his nephew when he took the photograph. “We were on the way back down from Windy Hill in Renfrewshire,” he said. “I decided to take a photo of my nephew, who had just walked in front of me.” The photographer claims that he felt as if “someone was near”. “It was a strange feeling, but I didn’t notice anyone.” When they returned home and uploaded their photos onto their computer, he added, he noticed the anomaly right away. “There were one or two entities… what looked like small people peering out from the tree next to my nephew.”
