When Nature Attacks

When Nature Attacks

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives Elite the guys start off talking about how ‘Disappearing Hillary’ sparks green screen conspiracy theory among Trump supporters. Doing what internet users do best, conspiracy theorists picked through the shorter-than-usual 20-minute speech, during which Clinton hammered rival Donald Trump — who she is set to debate for the first time in a little over a week — frame by frame. The conclusion? Clinton wasn’t actually at the rally at all, appearing instead via green screen. Then, after a century of constant decline, the number of wild tigers is on the rise! According to the most recent data, around 3,890 tigers now exist in the wild—up from an estimated 3,200 in 2010. We can attribute this updated minimum number—compiled from national tiger surveys—to rising tiger populations in India, Russia, Nepal, and Bhutan; improved surveys; and enhanced protection of this iconic species.

Then, the ocean might seem like a quiet place, but listen carefully and you might just hear the sounds of the fish choir. Most of this underwater music comes from soloist fish, repeating the same calls over and over. But when the calls of different fish overlap, they form a chorus. Robert McCauley and colleagues at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, recorded vocal fish in the coastal waters off Port Headland in Western Australia over an 18-month period, and identified seven distinct fish choruses, happening at dawn and at dusk. Then, an Australian man has died after a large shark attacked him while he was kitesurfing in New Caledonia, a French island territory in the South Pacific, marine authorities said Wednesday. The 50-year-old man had fallen from his board Tuesday in a large lagoon near the northwestern town of Koumac when the shark bit deep into his right thigh, said Nicolas Renaud, the director of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center.

After the break, Kyle brings up some more incidents of animals going on human killing sprees! Thank you for listening and supporting Expanded Perspectives. Don’t forget to watch our new show on YouTube “Unusual Encounters”. Have a great weekend!
